Garbage collection changing in Espanola

Big changes are coming to how Espanola handles garbage collection.  Residents will see their four bag limit reduced to two clear bags.  Town council hasn’t decided on a start date because there’s no contract in place yet with the contractor.  However the phase in period will be six months so homeowners can use up what garbage bags they have in their homes.  The main reason for the change is to get the town closer to the Waste Free Ontario Act.  Under the Act, landfills would no longer accept food and organic waste a few years from now.   Instead, you’ll have the waste in a green box which some large municipalities already do.  Council’s adoption of the change doesn’t include businesses.  However business will also be affected and the details of the changes are still being worked on.
