Low level crimes in Elliot Lake are on the rise. East Algoma OPP detachment commander Inspector Brent Cecchini says there was a significant rise in theft under crimes during June and July. Cecchini says considering the low value of the stolen property the perpetrators probably stole as a joke, but it’s a joke that could backfire if you’re caught. He says a person got get stuck with a criminal record for life for doing something that might have seemed like a thrill at the time. Most of the crimes have occurred at night so police will step up night patrols. Also in each case where a vehicle was robbed, it was unlocked.
