It was a peaceful protest in Nairn Centre as residents and First Nations opposed a proposed bulk emulsion explosive plant just west of the community. The protestors slowed down traffic on Highway 17 for about 90 minutes on Wednesday before marching to the Township Town Hall. Council has re-zoned nearly 200 hectares of land to accommodate the facility. The plant is actually seven trailers and the facility will have the capacity to produce about 100,000 kilograms of explosives a day.
