A slick computer fraud has surfaced and it has police in West Nipissing warning people about it. In Sturgeon Falls a woman bought a computer security system and then got a call from the company saying it was shutting down and giving its customers back their money. However the caller then told the woman the company gave her back too much money and wanted some of it transferred back. The women went to the bank and to her surprise no money had been deposited in her account. In fact she discovered the firm removed money because when buying the software she unknowingly gave the scammers her banking information. The woman froze her accounts to block any more withdrawals and now she’s looking into whether she’s also the victim of identity theft.
