Island police push for safe swimming

OPP on Manitoulin are pushing safe swimming practices in an effort to reduce drowning deaths.  In just two years the island has dealt with three children drowning on area lakes.  Police are starting an awareness program that emphasizes water safety.  Beach towels are now available on the island with the theme a drowning can happen quickly and silently but is preventable.  Figures show that 90 percent of all children drowning in shallow water died because an adult wasn’t around.
