The Serpent River First Nation is making a commitment to protect surrounding lands for future generations. Chief Isadore Day says the reserve will achieve this by adopting a Seven Grandfather protocol. That protocol directs residents to take steps now to ensure their future grandchildren have land that is still habitable. Day says Elliot Lake mining killed life in the Serpent River for many years because of toxic spills. He says we need to prevent these events from repeating so our offspring have a viable future.
