Glencore facing charges following the death of a miner

Glencore is facing charges for allegedly being uncooperative during the investigation of the death of a miner. Fifty-four-year-old Richard Pigeau died in October at the Nickel Rim South Mine when he was struck by a piece of equipment. The Ministry of Labour is now charging Glencore for hindering, obstructing, or interfering with an inspector. They’re also charged with failing to furnish all necessary means in their power to help with the investigation.

If convicted, Glencore faces a maximum fine of $500,000 per charge. The charges were laid in June, and the Ministry has the option of laying more charges up to October 20th. The company is expected to appear in court in Sudbury next month.
