Man apologizes for triggering false emergency

The young Sudbury man who created a false emergency for responders is apologizing for his action.  The man, 26-year-old Cayden Cole, used a backhoe to remove his truck from a lake which got stuck in the slushy ice.  But Cole’s backhoe broke through the ice and he jumped out of the cab to safety.

In his hurry to now remove two vehicles from the lake, he left the area to get help without telling police what happened.  After he left, 9-1-1 got a call about the backhoe partially submerged and the fear was someone was trapped inside.  Cole says he’s learned from his bad decision not telling authorities no one was in any trouble.
