A court is giving the former Algoma Steel in Sault Ste. Marie a break. Essar Steel won`s have to make a special contribution to the employee pension plan that was due November 30th. The bottom line is the steelmaker is cash-strapped as it restructures itself. The Steelworkers union didn`t object to the missed payment. Essar has until next August to complete its restructuring meaning businesses in the Sault who sold it goods and services likely won`t see a dime.
