Blind River man not criminally responsible for father’s death

A judge has ruled a Blind River man is not criminally responsible for stabbing his father to death last year.  Judge Alex Kurke accepted the evidence from a psychiatrist who said 19-year-old Ian Hammond was delusional and psychotic at the time of the stabbing.  The Crown Attorney agreed with that assessment.  The verdict means Hammond will not stand trial for a murder charge.  Instead Hammond will stay at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre until he’s taken to a care facility in Penetanguishene for treatment.
