Northern Ontario is losing the OPP helicopter in Sudbury.  The chopper is moving to Orillia which already has an OPP helicopter.  The move surprised Nickel Belt MPP France Gelinas.  The New Democrat says the relocation will compromise some search and rescues because of weather patterns at certain times of the year.    She says flight opportunities are limited from November to March because the Orillia region is subject to various weather from a lake effect.  Gelinas adds the flight time between both communities is 80 minutes and that’s a lot of time lost getting a police chopper back north when it’s needed.  The New Democrat says Sudbury has had a helicopter since 1991 and it’s proven its worth over that time.  The OPP say the relocation will save the service about $250,000.
