Ombudsman asked to rule if Elliot Lake council held illegal in-camera meeting

The Elliot Lake lobby group SAGE says council has no business discussing the mayor’s conduct in camera.  As a result, the Senior Action Group of Elliot Lake has lodged a complaint with the Ombudsman that going in-camera on the issue was illegal.  SAGE spokesman Don Nichols says concerns or complaints councilors have about the mayor need to be debated publicly.  Nichols says the mayor and one councillor opposed going in camera but they were out-voted.  He says councillors came back with a vote of confidence for the mayor, but the public has no idea how they arrived at that decision.  If the Ombudsman rules the meeting was illegal, the worst that happens is the decision is read out during a public council meeting.  Nichols says a decision could come down in two or three weeks.
