There’s still no word from the federal government on if it will continue to fund Algoma Central Railway. Last year the feds put up money to help ACR with its operations but that arrangement runs out next Tuesday. City council in Sault Ste. Marie has formally requested a new arrangement. It wants $7 million over five years so that a third party can grow the ACR service. ACR supporters say losing the rail service will negatively affect communities, tourist outfitters and business in Algoma and beyond.
