There’s good news for people who hike the Cup and Saucer trail on Manitoulin Island. After learning a few days ago that the trail would close, there’s a deal in place to have it re-open by this summer. Don Eadie Construction was forced to close the trail which crosses the company’s land because of a lack of money. However the Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy also owns land in the same region and it’s going to create a new access to the trail over its property. The development is the result of an agreement between the Conservancy and the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands. Council held an emergency meeting after hearing the trail was going to close and that meeting produced the agreement with the EBC.
