Sudbury Man Charged for Stealing His Own Vehicle

A 31-year-old Sudbury man has been arrested for mischief to his own vehicle.

Espanola Police says on May 14th the man reported his F150 pickup had been stolen from a driveway on Second Avenue. Police say the man claimed he had left the car parked in the driveway with the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition.

Later that day, a resident says they saw the vehicle down a snowmobile and walking trail in the Barber and Queensway area with significant damage to the truck.

Police investigation revealed the man claiming his truck was stolen damaged the vehicle himself in an attempt to get insurance claim money. He is facing charges of fraud and mischief, and will appear in court on July 17th.
