Well known area businessman passes away

A former Espanola businessman has passed away.  Gerry Cronin was raised on Manitoulin and made a name for himself as a national athlete.  He was a student at Assumption University in Windsor and went through the   school with a double scholarship in football and hockey.  After graduating he followed in his father’s footsteps and opened the first of many businesses in Espanola including Cronin’s Variety Stores in Espanola.   His other businesses included the opening of Consumers Distributing in Sudbury.

In 1965 an accident left Cronin a paraplegic but that didn’t slow him down.  In fact he became a director on the Ontario Advisory Council for the Physically Disabled.  Next Wednesday a graveside service will be held for Cronin at the Espanola Cemetery at 2:00pm.
