The MP for Nickel Belt wants to improve the quality of life for seniors across Canada. To accomplish that, Marc Serre has introduced a Private Member`s Bill that calls for a national strategy on seniors. Serre says the strain seniors will put on healthcare will become unsustainable as the population continues to age. Today, seniors consume 45 percent of healthcare dollars but make up only 15 percent of the population. In less than 20 years, their population will jump to 25 percent and will account for 60 percent of healthcare dollars. Serre says his Bill is not intended to see seniors as obstacles but rather as an opportunity to update a wide range of public policy.
